Abstract
The article is devoted to the general overview of the approaches to the interpretation of the Quran in the treatises of the representatives of Islamic Revival of the middle of the XXth century. The author focuses on the major features of the heritage of such figures as S. Qutb and A. A. Maududi, whose exegetical works are widely considered to be the most influential modernist interpretations of the sacred text of Islam. Finally, the article analyses the political component of this type of tafsir and its role in construction of the Islamist paradigm of social order.
