RELIGIOUS VOCABULARY OF THE GAGAUZ LANGUAGE BASED ON THE MATERIAL OF M. CHAKIR’S PRAYER BOOK “KISA DUA KITABI”

Abstract
The study and research of the religious and sacral texts of non-Muslim Turkic peoples of Ukraine still belong to topical linguistic issues of Turkology since, in comparison with other Slavic or Romance-Germanic languages, the religious vocabulary of the Turkic languages is not sufficiently studied.
The Gagauz people are Balkan Turkic Orthodox Christians, who begin to appear in historical literature after the middle of the XVIII century, being a part of the Ottoman Empire in the Eastern Balkans. The role of the ethnic separation of Turks from the Northeast Balkans and from the Turkish population of the Balkans during the Ottoman Empire was played by the fact that the Gagauz belonged to Orthodox Christians. Christianity, along with other factors, contributed to the preservation and strengthening of the ethnic independence of the Gagauz, the formation of their original culture, and ethnic identity.
In particular, the religious terminology of the Gagauz language, although partly researched, still remains interesting and relevant. Thus, for scholars the question of the origin of Arabian-Persian borrowings in the religious system of the Gagauz language, the ways of borrowing these religious terms, and their understanding from the point of view of the religious identity of the Gagauz peoples remains unexplored.
In this article we have analyzed and studied the religious vocabulary of the Gagauz language on the material of one of the prayer books.
The article deals with religious terminology and gives a thematic classification of the religious terms of the Gagauz language on the material of the prayer book “Kısa dua kitabı”. Bearing in mind the synonymous pairs that we have recorded in certain thematic groups, one can conclude that the composition and structural-semantic features of the religious terminology of the Gagauz language reflect the spiritual culture of the Gagauz people, the linguistic personality and the ways of forming the religious vocabulary.
Also, the article highlights the contribution of the educator M. Chakir to the development and translation of Christian literature into Gagauz language.
