Abstract

The present article is devoted to the analysis of role of ordinary desire in the teaching and spiritual practice of the early Hassidism. Facts of regular appeal of believers to the leaders of Hassidic movement (tsadicim) with the purpose of embodiment of their requests concerning health, material prosperity and other domestic necessities are well-known. But the estimation of the situation in the Hassidic sermons is ambiguous. Instructions of tsadicim contained both conviction believers’ aspiration to the worldly goods and, as well, appeals to use them for the good of the service to Lord. The present article proposes hypothesis that the realizing of the ordinary wishes of believer, according to the Hassidic views, presented one of the major spiritual practices, which is equal by its importance to mystic meditation.
