Abstract

In the article observations of A. Krymskyi are considered which have been carried out by him in Beirut during 1896–1898. The attention is paid to the description and the revealing of the Orthodox Arabs responses to the Greek clergy activity and the increased Russian presence in the Church of Antioch. The formation of the ambivalent attitudes of the Orthodox Commune during the 19th century has been analyzed.
